I’m reading Ethical, Legal, and Professional Issues in Counseling (3rd edition) on my Amazon kindle. It is written by Theodore Remley and Barbar Herlihy.
I’m enjoying this book. I believe Recreational Therapists could gain valuable insights on ethics from reading this book. It is designed for counselors, but many of the concepts are the same for Recreational Therapists.
We’re all human. We are can make mistakes despite having the best training and experiences. A series of bad choices can result in some serious consequences. This book takes many professional issues and looks at them from an ethical and legal perspective.
If anything, I highly recommend recreational therapists to re-read our Code of Ethics and to take a few Continuing Education trainings on ethics when you have the opportunity to do so. Naturally, we Recreational Therapists want patients to receive the most benefits from our services. We want to protect them from harm, promote the patient’s autonomy. We must be fair, faithful, and truthful.
If you haven’t done so already, you should consider obtaining professional liability insurance to be on the safe side. I personally use Healthcare Services Provider Organization (HSPO).
