RelaxingPal is a new project on Indiegogo.
It seems like a really cool thing.

Helping kids with anxiety

Darla Hernadez had posted a great story about a psychologist, Margaret Jessop in South Bend.
Jessop has created a really neat program to help children who suffer from anxiety disorders.

Her program appears to provide:

  • psycho-education about the brain and how it works
  • relaxation skills: like deep breathing and imagination, and
  • mindfulness meditation.
I sure hope Jessop puts this information in a book.

Evidenced-based practice for Relaxation

My good friend Christian Adams is a Med Student who is trained as a Mindfulness Meditation instructor.

He posted a link to a really great article about research at Harvard that shows evidence that mind-body medicine could cut healthcare costs.
I think this is really neat.

Dancing = happier, less stressed, smarter

There was an article at Elite Daily about people who great up dancing.
Those who grew up dancing are happier, less stressed, and smarter.

I didn't grow up dancing. I grew up skateboarding. Well, here is the link for the article:

Deep breathing exercise

There is a really neat diagram (.gif) that can be used to teach deep breathing skills.

I use this link to help teach children how to participate in deep breathing.

The power of relaxaation

Daniel Goleman, one of my favorite authors (see his book), posted a really neat slideshow about the power of relaxation.
I think these tips could help us (as an individual) and the people who provide services for.

Drinks that can help calm

Rec. Therapists might be interested in this list of drinks that claim to calm people.

I noticed that my favorite drink, coffee, was not on the list. (Laugh aloud). It has a lot caffeine. Over the years, my tolerance for caffeine has become high. In fact, I can drink a few cups and take a nap. That probably isn't a good thing.

You can see the drinks listed at this Fox News health article:
