Some advice from the elderly:
I had taken a leisure and aging course during graduate school at Indiana University.
There was a strong likelihood that people in the human services field would be working with the elderly because of the number of baby-boomers.
I did my undergraduate training with the elderly at nursing homes and some who were in a skilled nursing facility.
I thought I would work the elderly for sure, but my first job offer was working with kids (who have abuse-reactive needs). I was only 22 at the time. I've grown a lot over the years.

Lower risk of alzheimer's disease
Rec. therapists who work with the elderly may be interested in this article I found on foxnews.
It suggests 7 ways to decrease risk of alzheimer's disease.
In a nutshell, here are the tips:
1. increase cinnamon in diet.
2. drink apple juice
3. drink coffee (my personal favorite tip)
4. socialize more.
5. meditate
6. Mediterranean diet helps.
7. Protect your vison.
Rec. therapist could develop social activities, meditation, coffee and conversation, offer apple jucie during sessions, and include cognitive activities. It was said that the social activities increase cognitive functioning.

Last World War I Vet passed away
I'm writing today to post the sad news that the last living World War I Vet has passed away.
Frank Buckles was 110 years old when he passed away at his home in Charles Town, West Virginia.
He had been a strong advocate for a World War I Memorial to be created in D.C. There is currently a WWI Memorial in Kanasas City, but not in D.C.
President Obama, Sen. J. Rockefeller (W.Va.), Sen. Joe Manchin (W.Va.), and Congresswoman Shelly Moore Capito all expressed kind words about Frank Buckles.
Frank Buckles may lay in honor in the U.S. Capitol rotunda.
I suppose the next person would be the last living person of World War II. The baby boomer generation is here. There will be a growing demand for people working with the elderly.
