I got to meet a man who helped Haiti shortly after the Earthquake.
He was born in Africa. He had lived in Cincinnati, but now lives in the West Virginia, Kentucky, Ohio (Tri-State) area, where I live at.
He is involved with the School of Professional Counseling program at Lindsey Wilson College (Ashland, KY) campus. I regret to say I can’t recall his name.
But I did write down his blog link.
His group that went to Haiti used play therapy exercises to help children who survived the earthquake. The activities allowed the children to express some of their emotions and helped them to talk about their experiences. They also provided one-on-one sessions with the students.
The drawings from the play therapy sessions were used to start discussions.
Naturally, some of the children had had nightmares and were scared of being trapped or hurt if it happened again.
I was pleased to hear that they had also taken candy, activities, beads, puzzles and other items to give out there. They provided them with recreation opportunities like soccer and basketball.
