Initiative

I finished reading Seth Godin’s (2011) book, Poke the Box. The subtitle is “When was the last time you did something for the first time?”

This book is all about taking initiative, doing something, being creative, failing, and of course, succeeding.

I thought many recreational therapists might enjoy reading this book.
Godin talks about Ford’s assembly line and how the managers wanted compliance to get cars created.

In today’s word, that isn’t enough. The world is changing. Those types of jobs are being sent to other countries. We need people who’ll be brave enough to be initiative, even if their first ideas fail.

Godin said in his (2011) book, “They don’t understand that Excellent isn’t about working extra hard to do what you’re told. It’s about taking initiative to do work you decide is worth doing.” This quote reminds me a lot of Daniel Pink’s recent book, “Drive.”

Godin ends the book by sharing a quote by Siddharth Gautama:
“There are two mistakes one can make along the road to truth. Not going all the way, and not starting.”

You may want to start reading Godin’s new book. You can download it in under a minute if you have an amazon kindle or have it shipped right to your door.
Here are the Amazon links:

A.) Kindle is only $4.99 at the time I’m writing this blog. That price may change by the time you’re reading this. I read it on my kindle. Here is the link:
