Bilingual -- protects against Alzheimer's

Fox News reported that learning a second language could protect against alzheimers.

This is based on research by psychologist Ellen Bialystock (and others) at York University (Tronto, Canada).

There were 450 patients in this study who had Alzheimer's. Half of these patients were bilingual and half of them had only spoke one language.

This study was in Canada. It reminds me of a joke I heard once. What do you call a person who only speaks on langauge? An American. ha-ha-ha.

I had taken Spanish in high school. I may know ten to twenty words. But that wouldn't count.

I'd like to learn Sign Language if anything. I'm sure that would count.

Naturally, Rec. Therapists working with patients who have Alzheimer's are at a point where the patient isn't able to learn a 2nd language.

Rec. Therapists may want to share this information with adult patients and encourage them to learn a second language during their leisure.
