NTRS is no more.

I just read at Dr. David Austin’s RT blog that he had received an email from Marieke Van Puymbroeck who had attended this year’s American Therapeutic Recreation Association’s conference in Spokane, Washington.

Puymbroeck reported that Jerry Jordon (recent past president of NTRS) announced the official dissolution of The National Therapeutic Recreation Society (NTRS).

NTRS is no more. NTRS was a branch of the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA).

Here are my thoughts:

Recreational therapy has always been split between opposing views between our two national organizations: ATRA and NTRS. This should be one less problem because we only have ONE national organization now: ATRA!

I’ve always found myself on the ATRA side. I’ve never had an official membership with NTRS, but I had purchased some neat Rec Therapy T-Shirts from them before.

If you’re not a member of ATRA, I highly recommend for you to join them.
