Recreational therapists and many other practitioners use meditation as a complementary and alternative medicine approach to treatment for various patient needs.
I read an interesting article on the how meditation can help the brain.
Richard Davidson (University of WI) argues that meditation can increase concentration and empathy.
Davidson has pracitced eastern-style meditation since the 70s.
I provide empathy training for children with mental and beh. health needs, so I found that claim interesting.
Others argue that Davidson's sample size is too small, but there is beleif that research in this area could "go mainstream" in the next decade.
