RESPONSIBLE FOR DIRECTLY SUPERVISING:
Inclusion Companions & Interpreters
JOB PURPOSE:
To assist the Inclusion Team (Inclusion Manager, Companions, Program Supervisors, Program Leaders, Participants and families) in supporting the inclusion process in member agency programs for individuals with disabilities, while maintaining a safe environment.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Graduate from accredited college or university with a Bachelor of Science degree in Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation with a therapeutic emphasis or degree in a related field with practical experience in recreation programming.
2. Current NCTRC Certification or ability to obtain within one year of employment.
3. Full time experience planning and conducting recreation programs for people with disabilities.
4. Must demonstrate knowledge of disabilities and have two years of experience with children and adults with various disabilities in community recreation or related fields.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND JOB SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Must have good organization skills;
· Communicate clearly and effectively with various groups and individuals;
· Maintain a working knowledge of all general and departmental-specific safety rules;
· Must follow the individual policies of each member agency;
· Understand the inclusion process and work closely with the inclusion team to support individuals with disabilities in the most inclusive setting;
· Complete observations and follow through with the necessary paperwork, phone calls, and debriefing after each observation;
· Schedule assignments, direct supervision and evaluation of companion staff and interpreters assigned to inclusion placements;
· Demonstrate the ability to troubleshoot and deal with behaviors, programming issues and concerns regarding the inclusion placement and implementation process;
· Maintain all inclusion placement paperwork; i.e., records, forms, initial observations/ assessments and correspondence;
· Assist with the inclusion of participants in programs/activities and with any accommodations needed providing physical and emotional support;
· Work with the companion staff through modeling of the desired skill, task, or technique;
· Assist with the development, implementation and evaluation of behavior plans and inclusion plans when needed
· Serve as a sub for companions who may be out due to vacation, illness or emergency when necessary;
· Have the ability to get to and from designated points in the seven member agencies quickly and without hesitation;
· During the temporary absence of the Inclusion Manager, the Inclusion Specialist will assume responsibilities of the Inclusion Manager as directed;
· Perform other duties related to the Inclusion Specialist when necessary, or duties in the best interest of the Association when requested by the Inclusion Manager.
