3 week program needs camp counselor.

Summer Camp Counselor for Children's Specialized Hospital; Westfield, NJ (3 week program)
Job Summary: Provide supervision of individual campers in an integrated day camp program. Assist with all camp activities, including planning, preparation and clean-up of activities. Communicate and interact with children, their family, and other staff. Assist with necessary daily needs of children as needed. Assist with administrative duties as applicable. Direct volunteers as necessary.
Job functions:
• Effectively communicate, collaborate and work as a team with other camp staff, campers, families and volunteers.
• Provide direct supervision for campers as designated.
• Assist with daily needs of campers as designated
• Display understanding of disabilities and the developmental needs of the camper when assisting and implementing activities.
• Display competency in interpreting the camper's behaviors based upon an understanding of cognitive, physical, social and age specific development.
• Demonstrate ability to make appropriate interventions based on camper's behaviors.
• Assist during group activities and modify group activities as needed for individual campers.
• Provide on-going evaluation of camp programs and services. Make appropriate suggestions for improvement or modifications.
• Follow established safety and infection control guidelines.
• Assist, prepare and clean up during camp programs and assist with clerical tasks as designated.
• Organize, monitor and maintain general supplies and equipment.
• Provide directions to volunteers
Required skills:
Effectively work with others through collaborating, organizing, prioritizing and following specific instruction from other camp and/or hospital staff. Demonstrate tact, initiative, and professional judgment in performance of duties. Good verbal communication skills.
Education and Experience Requirements:
High School graduate and/or currently in secondary education program desired. Work experience or volunteer work with children with special needs and/or previous work experience with children.
