In Memory of William W. ‘Bill’ Graham

Danny PettryClick here to make a donation to find a cure for pediatric cancer!

My uncle Billy, 66, of Coal City, West Virginia passed away on November 5, 2010 after a long courageous struggle with cancer. I felt that it would be appropriate for me to post a blog entry in memory of him. He is shown in the photo to the right at the chemotherapy treatment center. This picture was taken in the last month.

He was born Feb. 5, 1944, in Whitby, West Virginia. He is the son of the late Tracy and Dona (Keffer) Graham. Billy grew up in Stotesbury and Crab Orchard, West Virginia. He was a faithful member of the Coal City Church of God where he served as the Sunday School Superintendent and “candy man” to the children.

Billy retired from Precision Coal Lab of Daniels, West Virginia where he made many life-long friends.

Billy had a variety of leisure interests including: singing in the church choir, restoring old cars, fishing, carpentry, woodworking, sports, outdoors, traveling, and helping others. He was devoted to his church, wife and family, and was a blessing to all!

Those left to cherish his lovingly warm memories are his wife, Sue Cole Graham; brothers Fred Graham and his wife Erma, James Graham and his wife Barbara, Danny Graham and his companion Carla Benfield; sisters Carol Childs and her husband Daniel, Mary Meadows, Teresa Pettry and her husband Danny (senior); additional family members Betty and Ben Kelley, John Glen and Barbara Kelley; and special adored nieces and nephews who highlighted his life. He loved all of his family dearly.

He was a good man and a wonderful husband and will be greatly missed by loved ones and friends. As the spirit and soul lives on, Bill will always remain alive in our hearts and souls, being forever an integral part of us. Our lives have been made brighter, our hearts fuller by knowing and loving him.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 9, 2010, at the Coal City Church of God, with the Bishop Clarence Lee officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Monday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Calfee Funeral Home, 800 South Oakwood Avenue, Beckley, and at the church one hour prior to service on Tuesday.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

The family requests memorial contributions be made to Bowers Hospice House, 454 Cranberry Drive, Beckley, WV 25801, or to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.

Online condolences may be left at http://www.calfeefh.com/

My Recreational Therapist friends and personal friends are more than welcome to post condolences here: http://www.calfeefh.com/

Arrangements by Calfee Funeral Home, Beckley.

My mother (Teresa Pettry) had recently visited my uncle (Billy Graham) while he was at the Chemotherapy treatment center.

My mother reported that Billy had told her that 1,000s of children have cancer out there who he felt sad for. Billy was fortunate to have lived such a long and fulfilling life.

It reminds me of a sad book that I had read earlier this summer, called Notes Left Behind. It is the sad story of a young girl Elana who is suffering from a brain tumor. Her parents don’t’ tell her that she is dying, yet she knows. She hides little messages for her parents and sister in their jacket pockets, bookshelves, and in other places. They continue finding these “notes left behind” after she had passed away.

The sad part is that she is just a little girl.

Please take a moment to make a donation to help find a cure for any type of Cancer. You could make a donation for breast cancer or lung cancer.

I’d like to recommend the charity started in memory of Elana (from Notes Left Behind) because it is for children who are still young in life.

You can get products which benefit pediatric brain cancer at this link, including the book, “Notes Left Behind.”
